4 o'clock rock... Happy days are here again :)
Actually, they never left. I just had a great meeting with Jen today! We'd been meaning to get to the Green Room together for a long time but hadn't managed to find a moment. Anywho, turns out she had some wacky pre-conceived notion that the Green Room would be "green", which is totally isn't. Mostly brown.
We sat and chatted for like an hour and a half or two hours. It rocked. Basically we got to vent for a while, which is always good, and we just got to discuss our visions for the future.
It's looking goood. It's useful sometimes to just sit back and try to see the big picture again. We're going to have to do it again sometime. Also, I should do it with Mike too... actually I should do it with everyone! Maybe once a week I'll go with someone just to chill, and do a rotation? :)
Mike and I actually got a second to hang on the beanbag chairs yesterday, which was nice. Chatting about PHP etc... he was totally exhausted from programming till 4am and going to an early morning meeting. Wheee!
Man, i have been soo slacking on these updates :(
What else?
Oh yeah, last week I made a presentation on the TIG Branding & Image strategy documents & powerpoint that I'd been working on for a month, and it seemed to really go over well, so i was happy :)
Now I'm working on a couple of things... 1) creating a binder of documents & contracts to be used for sourced projects; 2) learning PHP and creating the workshop kit leader community. Oh boy, is it a treat :P
Anyway, more news soon :)

TakingIT Frozen!!

So I had dragonboat practise yesterday.... it was awesome. It was the first time everyone was at practise, Toronto Firefighters and all... we had soo much power... 23 of us all paddling at once... but the boat was super-low in the water but we were quick and had a good pace... anyway we were motoring along and the steersman said he must've turned the wrong way, and we were broadsided by this wave and all this water was pouring in, so everyone leaned to the other side, so water poured in the other side, we they leaned back the other way and another wave came in... then we sank and the boat capsized and we were all out in freeeeezing lake ontario... and mike lost his shoes, and it took people on shore a little while to notice, then the rescue boats came out and pulled our freezing corpses out of the "high-shrink-factor" water... and I was "froze-to-the-bone" for the rest of the day. BUT it was pretty exciting :)
Oh yeah, I also spent part of Saturday working on the branding powerpoint :) Wohoo!

Another Day, Another Fun :)
|
Hey everybody, it's Tuesday morning here at ye Olde Office, and what a rainy day :( The good news though is that I've spent part of the morning creating the email that will be sent to workshop applicants :) Sweet... So, it's kinda misty outside, and we're listening to Squirrel Nut Zippers here... Mmmmm... it's nice :) George just arrived, and brought treats and tea with him. What a swingin' daddy-o. :) For the rest of the day, I hope to work on learning some more PHP, and doing a bit more branding and working on my own workshop :)
Talk to y'all later,
D.

Day 2 - Fun All Around
|
Can I just say that this whole thing is nutty? Yesterday was awesome... I ended up staying at work late just because I hadn't noticed that the day was done. It's great. Working with Elena, Nordine, Mike, and Jen is super. We get along well, and we're productive.
Yesterday I started working on our branding/marketing kit, and I continued to work on it today. Things are going well, and I hope to finish it up tomorrow. Well, the rough draft anyway. Used the web (office.com) and the book Building Brandwidth by Sergio Zyman for my primary sources. Good good.
Of course, we're experiencing the usual problems with having a new office... the network goes down, we don't have the printer hooked up, etc etc, but we are getting stuff done :)
Also, I finished reading the book "Geeks" by John Katz today... awesome read for anyone who has ever felt like an outcast, or who loves technology, and feels geeky at times. A story of triumph and how anything is possible if you really put your mind to it. I plan on contacting the author, because it was that good!

My First Day As A TIG Intern :)
|
So, I'm just a guy from a small town in Southern Ontario. 10 months ago, I was working in an oil field, covered in crude every day. But today, after following a few dreams, I rode the TTC subway to my first day on the job at TakingITGlobal's new office on Bay Street in Toronto. Whoa. How quickly things change.
TIG began as a couple big ideas, and now I'm sitting here with Mike, Jen, Elena, Nordine, and Martin, and we're in *our* office, with laptops, a wireless network, desks, couches, and a kickin' view of the CN Tower and downtown Toronto, AND I'm doing what I love. Groovy.
